I agree with you, SEO is very important for websites.  Some of my friends who are new to websites don't know much about SEO, they think that if they just start a site, they will have visitors automatically.  But that is not the case, emarketing is very important.

mod rewrite, sitemap, robot.txt and all what the search engines love^^
Very important: many good contents.(when you have 80% of games, its not so good for the Search engines) And more Backlinks you have (set signatur on very good Forums and blogs) so higher is your ranking on google and co.
SEO its a hard work and its no a thing from some days :P
RSS xml  is a minimum start do make your Site SEO.
